In 1763, James Watt was assigned the job of improving a Newcomen engine.

The remodeled version, which had a separate condenser (1765), sun and planet gear (1781), centrifugal governor (1788), and indicator diagram (1796), came to be known as the Watt engine, as illustrated below: [1]
